Sound Level Indicator
General Description
The Sound Level Indicator displays ambient sound level of a room, over a medium to loud range of 64 to 106 dBA. An external omnidirectional microphone is connected to a front panel jack, such that it may be relocated elsewhere in a room using an extension cable, for taking a reading close to a source, or to compare levels in different parts of a room. (Typical rooms, however, often show only a few dB difference at different locations, if well away from sources.) Within the unit, the signal passes through an A-weight filter and then into a true-RMS level measurement device. The sound level is continuously displayed on a multi-coloured LED meter, which has a relatively smooth, slow response, and can be viewed easily from across a typical room.
